Diagnostics
Diagnostics refers to the process of identifying and determining a disease or disorder based on its symptoms, signs, and test results. This process is fundamental to medical practice and encompasses a variety of methods, ranging from simple clinical assessments to complex imaging techniques and laboratory analyses.
Diagnostics often begins with an anamnesis, where the physician gathers information about the patient’s medical history and symptoms. This is followed by physical examinations and, if necessary, specific tests such as blood tests, X-rays, or MRIs. The goal of diagnostics is to establish an accurate diagnosis that enables effective treatment and improves the patient’s prognosis.
Some specialized procedures in the diagnostics of TMD (temporomandibular disorders) include:
Clinical functional analysis: Manual examination of masticatory muscles, jaw joints, and jaw mobility.
Instrumental functional analysis: Analysis of occlusion using articulators and digital systems such as jaw registration systems.
Motion analysis & bite force measurement: Precise recording of jaw movements and bite forces.
TMD screening questionnaires: Standardized symptom collection for rapid preliminary diagnosis.
