Malocclusion
In dentistry, malocclusion is a misalignment of the teeth or a misalignment of the jaws that results in the upper and lower rows of teeth not meeting correctly.
This can have various causes, including
- genetic factors,
- premature loss of milk teeth,
- uneven tooth growth,
- habits such as thumb sucking or even
- injuries.
Malocclusions can vary in severity and take different forms, such as
- Overbite,
- underbite,
- crossbite or
- open bite.
These malocclusions can not only impair chewing and speaking, but also lead to increased strain on the jaw muscles and joints, which can result in pain and other health problems.
